ZHAO Chao, Deputy Dean of the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University (AADTHU) and Deputy Director of Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research (TASA), was invited to the specially planned program of "Hangfengzaixian" - Surging Tide and Smooth Sailing - A Glimpse of Qingdao's Key Projects and introduced TASA in details on January 17.

Formerly known as the Central Academy of Arts and Design, the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University (AADTHU) is one of the most influential arts and design institutes in China, ranking No. 1 on the subject ranking by the Ministry of Education and top 20 on the world ranking of design institutes. Officially approved by Tsinghua University, AADTHU is the ninth detached institute of Tsinghua University in China and is the only detached institute of AADTHU. 

Jointly developed by Tsinghua University, Qingdao People's Government, and West Coast New Area of Qingdao, TASA is a concrete action of implementing the development strategies of "becoming a strong country in culture" and "innovation-driven development". Commenced in March 2019, the project covers an area of 185 mu and has a planned building area of 134,000 square meters. It is divided into five functional areas, i.e. Arts and Science Integration and Innovation Area, Innovation Research Achievement Transformation Area, Innovation Research Achievement Exchange Area, Innovation Research Achievement Demonstration Area, and Office and Living Area. 

According to Prof. ZHAO Chao, TASA would give full play to AADTHU's subject advantages and Qingdao's industrial advantages, focus on six industry-oriented innovation centers in the field of enterprise collaboration, i.e. Future Transportation Innovation Center, Future Life Innovation Center, Future Fashion Innovation Center, Future Health and Well-being Innovation Center, Future Learning Research Center, and Sustainable Cultural Development Center, and collaborate with the industry-leading enterprises in building laboratories and promoting arts and design innovation, to promote achievement transformation and drive the industrial upgrading, thus building a top demonstration platform of enterprise design innovation in China. As for talent introduction, TASA will make use of Tsinghua University's advantages in leading subjects and talent aggregation, establish a talent introduction platform, attract well-known experts, scholars, and high-end talents from China and abroad to participate in the construction of TASA, promote the landing and transformation of achievements from teaching and scientific research and build TASA into an international first-class design and cultural product R&D base, technological innovation and enterprise incubation base, high-end talent convergence and cultivation base, arts and cultural exchange and promotion base, and emerging industries promotion and business startup service base. This is also to turn Qingdao into an international first-class cultural and creative industry center, high-end talent gathering center, artistic creation center, and innovative fashion release center.
